Band 5+: In many developing countries, poor people do not have access to the internet and computer technology. As a result, they are unable to get many services. Why is this the case? What can the government do to solve this problem?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the contemporary era, internet and technological gadgets have became increasingly instrumental for many individuals. However, in certain nations, due to the lack of internet, education as well as exaggerated costs on devices do not allow poor people to access beneficial services. The government may take several actions to bridge the digital divide.

The foremost cause of inaccessibility to useful services is schooling shortages. In other words, as we know that lack of digital literacy among poor individuals do not let them to get benefit from these services. For instance, in certain countries, such as Holland and Norway, where local people do not have an access to internet, 81% of them are not able to utilize all beneficial services due to technological illiteracy.

On the other hand, people believe that high costs and lack of internet leads to inability to these services. That is to say that, in some nations, there is not adequate infrastructure due to the exaggerated costs, as it provides immense difficulty for majority of people to access all these services. Apart from this, all electronic devices costs a penny, which take people away from modern technology. According to the statistics, 62% of the countries experience digital illiteracy due to the inaccessibility as well as unavailability of the internet and technological gadgets.

There are several actions could be taken to solve the problem described above. One possible solution would be reducing internet as well as technological gadgets’ costs or providing digital education for poor people. In Britain, more and more individuals are gained education regarding technology and the services.

In conclusion, l firmly assert that not being able access to online services is a clearly problem of a such complexity that in reality, it is unlikely to be solved in a short term ;however, l hold the view that measures outlined above, such as decreasing costs of internet or supplying lessons about technology.
