Nowadays, a large number of people are likely to purchase new ones instead of repairing broken products. In this essay, I would analyze reasons leading to this tendency and propose some consequences.
There are some major reasons that explain why buying new products is a priority, the most significant of which is convenience. First and foremost, almost everyone, especially those who do not have too much time, believe that fixing broken products is a waste of time and money, which does not ensure that the item’s initial quality will be restored. That action leads to users, especially the youth, tending to buy new ones due to convenience and rapidity. For example, many complex products, such as television, computers, and robots, face several difficulties in repairing and do not function as well as the new ones, so buying a new product is more suitable. Therefore, convenience is one of the reasons for this trend.
The results of this trend are serious, particularly in terms of environmental impacts. To be specific, when people prefer using new ones, the old products, which create plastic waste, carbon emissions, and non-biodegradable materials, are discarded improperly, causing pollution. At the same time, climate change occurs, attributable to disasters and other environmental problems. This is clearly evident in the case of robots, which, having a sophisticated structure and many toxic materials, can cause water pollution in the local areas. As a result, this action has an impact on the natural habitat and the atmosphere.
In conclusion, people prefer replacing them with new ones rather than repairing, which is more popular in recent years. However, this action brings many drawbacks in the environment through plastic and waste.
