With the changes in societal norms and people’s perspectives, some aged people have been transformed from their family into retirement homes. Some argue that this trend is not fair because families should be careful for their elderly relatives. while there are clear reasons neglecting to this idea, I believe that elderly people should be together with their family members.
Proponents of retirement houses cite various reasons to support their stance. While unemployment is increasing, many people have to migrate both internationally and internally, questioning who takes care of their parents during their migration period. As a result, many elderly people find themselves in retirement homes. Additionally, some people are not healthy, which requires consistent care and treatment. However, the heightened cost of living fueled by inflation and high taxes pushes everyone to work meeting their basic necessities such as healthcare, education and utilities, sending elder family members to the retirement houses unwillingly. Finally, due to hectic schedules driven by heavy workloads and personal duties as well as isolated lifestyles, many people do not want to share the same apartment, allowing their loved ones to go to the retirement places.
On the other hand, even though shifts in social norms and people’s attitude, our elderly parents should live together. With their continuous effort, and the sacrifice of their whole life for their offspring, families should find alternative ways to take care of them. We should not let them feel unworthiness and dissatisfaction,
To sum up, while a retirement house is the best option regarding to its convenience and support, our personal responsibilities and its negative emotional impacts should not be forgotten
