In the modern world, an increasing amount of people with heart conditions prefer alternative medicine over conventional treatment. I think that this is a negative development, since alternative methods are not scientifically proven and may lead to detrimental consequences due to absence of proper care.
Even though the popularity of alternative therapy is growing, there is no evidence that it is effective. People rely on the historical appeal of alternative medicine rather than actual data. Unlike conventional methods that undergo dozens of tests and trials to prove their effectiveness, traditional medicine lacks such validation. For instance, some practices such as homeopathy and energy healing do not demonstrate any results under test conditions, except for Placebo effect. It occurs when an individual believes that the treatment is working, causing psychological changes. As a result, relief may be achieved for a short period of time, while the disease itself remains not treated.
Another reason why this development is negative is that denying conventional medicine in favor of alternative treatment delays proper care. Heart diseases require an evidence-based treatment, such as medications, surgery and lifestyle adaptation. While individuals resort to traditional methods that have no proven effect on diseases, they do not receive an actual treatment that would help. Thus, an affliction progresses until conventional medicine is involved. Sometimes, this might result in fatal consequences, such as heart attack. Therefore, relying on unverified methods for treating heart conditions may not only be ineffective but also life-threatening.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that the rising number of people resorting to alternative medicine is a negative development due to inefficiency and possible fatal consequences.
