In today’s world, an increasing number of people tend to opt for reading e-books rather than printed ones. I believe the benefits of choosing e-books outweigh its drawbacks since an online version of books are more convenient and time-efficient.

E-books offer several advantages. Firstly, they are highly convenient. The process of purchasing e-books is conducted online, saving time and eliminating the need for physical transportation or waiting. With an internet-connected device, people can read e-books anytime and anywhere. Additionally, e-books come with features like adjustable font sizes, text-to-speech, and built-in dictionaries, which make reading more accessible to those with visual impairments or reading difficulties. For instance, readers can easily highlight text, make notes, and search for specific information within the book.

Secondly , e-books are more environmentally friendly compared to paper books. Producing e-books requires no natural resources, whereas printed books necessitate the cutting down of trees. Reducing paper production helps preserve forests. For instance, a study conducted by the World Health Organization reveals that the introduction of e-books reduced the cutting of trees by 39%. Therefore, these digital reading platforms are better for nature and our ecosystem. However, e-books do have some drawbacks. Initially , one of the main drawbacks of reading digital books is that it lacks the tactile and sensory experience of reading a physical book. Many people enjoy the feeling of turning pages, the smell of the ink, and the overall aesthetic of a traditional book. Additionally, e-books are often criticized for causing strain on the eyes, especially when reading for prolonged periods. For example, a recent study in Ireland reveals that young children who read digital books more than four hours a day often suffer from eye problems within the next four years.

In conclusion, while there are some minor disadvantages to e-reading, the advantages of this trend far overshadow them. E-books offer convenience, accessibility, and affordability, making them an increasingly popular choice among readers. Furthermore, they are environmentally friendly which is a big plus.
