In the modernized era, it is apparent that science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) has established itself as the kernel of revolution creation and economic developments. That being said, gender differences have acted as a major handicap against accentuating all the qualities in the field. Female counterparts’ positions persist to be diminished in STEM areas, specifically in technology and engineering. From time immemorial, women had mostly been reduced to being delegated as homemakers and housewives, perceived to be reliant on men’s success and intelligence. Albeit current prospective opportunities for females from all walks of life, gender inequality still subsists to be the major drawback due to the past existing prejudices and regimes that predominantly focused on the empowerment of males in the hierarchical system. To clarify my point, Vietnam, for instance, still keeps each gender’s social status apart due to its past perpetuating wars that needed the synergy of the perceived more mentally and physically able-bodied personnel. It could be seen that most of the contribution was mostly male figures with less female heroic representatives as women could only act as a companion for their husbands, constricting their ability to exert their full potential to the battlefield. As a result, the common perception tailors and sticks to the past dominant achievement that is acquired by men instead of appreciating the support of females. It is also worth noting that the educational systems play a crucial part in shaping the fledglings’ mindsets of the gender discrepancies. While the existing educational institutions have partly reformed their curriculum to enable all children to thrive in their own respective fields, stereotypical belief remains one of the demerits that are prevalent among older teachers, conforming to the past norms and instilling narrow-minded conception on the offspring.
In order to combat such gender disparities, implementation of draconian laws regarding the infringement of women’s privacy and sexual harassment cases plays an integral part in ensuring a balanced ground for each gender. By constricting men from commiting sexual acts on women, the female communities would be able to gain increased social security and a safely-guarded workplace, enabling them to aim for ambitious goals and dreams without the repression and worries about possible manipulation of intercourse-related actions. Shifted perception of current gender prejudice is one of the most needed transformations in the path towards gender equality. The education systems and societal communities need to collaborate with each other to innovate synergistic strategies towards shaping the populace mindsets. Through the tutelage of youngsters about the demands for gender justice, they would potentially serve as future trailblazers for the changes in societal structure, where everyone from all genders would be offered equal rights and opportunities for engaging in scientific research or mind-stimulating professions and projects
In conclusion, the existing prejudices among the societal communities and educational systems are the major driving force behind the underrepresentation of women in the STEM fields. These two major drawbacks need to be reformed by having both sides to cooperate in order to ensure all genders’ harmonious coexistence while also imposing regulations on the anti-social malpractices against females to ensure their safeguarded involvement in the perceive male-dominated areas of expertise.
