In recent decades, with the great concern of global warming and worldwide pollution, many urban areas are replacing cars with bicycles, while others follow the traditional rules and remain driving rather than cycling. In my opinion, with the current situation, bicycles are a better development as they offer advantages in terms of body health and environmental impacts.
Many city dwellers choose to travel around by automobiles over simple bikes as they are naturally the faster transportation with greater convenience and the adaptability with various environments and distances. For instance, in the latest Review report by World Bank (WB) experts on the transition journey to electric vehicles in Vietnam, from 2035 onwards, car demand in Vietnam is predicted to increase sharply, with the car mechanization rate reaching 312 vehicles per 1,000 people compared to a rate of 22 vehicles in 2023. However, one part of the population believes that riding bikes should be more prioritized as it utilizes human strength rather than motor oil in cars. Therefore, bicycles are considered to be eco-friendly and be able to protect the environment. As a result, this can reduce carbon emissions and air pollution in various regions, and can easily handle the current pressing issue of global warming.
In my perspective, replacing cars with cycling is beneficial for a country as it protects human’s health. Therefore, this can lead to longevity and create a natural environment for people to live in. Secondly, bicycles have a lower chance to create accidents compared to cars, reducing less casualties in many areas. For example, in the state of Illinois in America, 26 bicyclists were killed in 2023 for which statistics were available, and 2,663 were injured, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation, and car crashes were responsible for 700 deaths that year, with a total of 93,517 injuries.
In conclusion, some individuals choose cars since they are more flexible and convenient for road trips, while others prefer bikes for the environment. As far as I am concerned, bicycles are the better options in terms of being beneficial for the development of the country.
