Due to eating unhealthy food, the number of people with health problems is growing, so it is crucial that governments raise taxes on fast food. In my opinion, higher taxes on unhealthy food will decrease its consumption and health problems related to it. Therefore, I completely agree with this opinion.
The popularity of fast food cannot be denied. In some countries, people often prefer fast food; as it is quick to prepare and delicious, and ignore its harmful effects. Junk food contains high percentages of unhealthy fats which increase cholesterol levels in the blood. For instance, a study from Tokyo university indicates that individuals who usually eat fast food suffer from high cholesterol level, and are more vulnerable to heart attacks more than their peers who eat healthy food, by 75%.
Rising taxes can play a vital role in declining the number of people who consume fast food; consequently, decreasing the number of people suffering from the consequences of eating it. High taxes will make individuals hesitate to buy this expensive and unhealthy food. To illustrate, in Europe, eating outside is considered costly, so people there rarely eat fast food; as a result, reports from Berlin university demonstrated that Europe is one of the lowest continents that consume fast food, so it is the lowest continent that its inhabitants suffer from medical issues caused by junk food.
to conclude, problems related to fast food are countless, and the demand on fast food world-wide is endless. In my opinion, the essential government’s role to impose high taxes on fast food cannot be delayed.
