Excessive media attention and scrutiny are often associated with being a celebrity. This has raised the argument that famous people should consent to it as an inevitable part of their decision. This essay will examine this perspective and explain why I am against it.
Granted, many individuals work hard to receive recognition and admiration from the public, so they should not consider media attention as wholly negative. In addition to this is the fact that there are even some well-known figures who do not hesitate to pursue popularity at the expense of their privacy. For example, the Kardashians produce a whole television series about the relationship dynamics among family members, as well as their romantic relationship problems. This allows them to gain more notoriety and amass more wealth through brand endorsements. In this case, it is arguable that if these renowned personalities willingly utilize their privacy to make more money, they should not lament about newspapers and magazines publishing posts and news about them.
However, the practice of the media sometimes can go too far. Firstly, numerous presses and paparazzis would not hesitate to dive deep into the personal lives of famous people to constantly harass and take candid shots for their articles. This significantly deters celebrities from fully enjoying their ordinary lives and daily activities, negatively impacting their relationships and mental health. It is also uncommon for the media to create unverified news about these individuals. This can be seen in a way that a huge number of tabloids post unauthentic celebrities’ scandals and incidents, clinging to the belief that such articles will boost their revenue and credit, unrealizing that such tampering practice can extremely harm these individuals’ reputation and career path. Viewed from this angle, it is completely unjustified for them to tolerate defamation at the cost of their lives.
In conclusion, although it is understandable that the prominent should expect high media exposure as a nature of their career, I disagree that they should not face this situation as it can blatantly threaten their credit and privacy. As a part of society, we should speak out against harassment and denigration towards celebrities.
