Band 6+: In some countries, children are given a lot of homework, which gives them stress and restricts their ability to learn other skills. what is your opinion?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The phenomenon of homework is ubiquitous across the globe. It is a controversial topic if this notion is causing mental health issues amongst students or not. I strongly agree with the former and I believe time after-school should be spent on leisure activities not on acdemic tasks.

To initiate, many people believe that a lot of written work is hazardous to children. This is true because school-goers are suffering from anxiety and depression as they do not have adequate time to spend on themselves. For instance, in the UK, the concept of home-assignments has contributed to increase health issues in pupils and doctors are advising parents to give a break to children so that they can address their personal problems. Moreover, the drift is confining other talents, such as, singing, painting, music and many more. To cite an example, in New york, adolescents are so over burdened with tasks for home that they barely have enough time to sleep and rest, consequently, having psychological issues.

In contrast, there are a plethora of causes which can be implemented to deal with the problem. Firstly, school-time is enough for studying and completed pedagogical tasks and time at home should be spent on recreational activities. Furthermore, this can help children to excel in extra-curricular activities like sports and art, shaping the future in a better way. To illustrate, most singers and actors in Hollywood do not have very high academic excellence but still they are making good use of the non-academic skills. In addition to this, youngsters often feel refreshed and re-winded when they spend time on sports and other hobbies, helping them in taking next day’s academic challenges head-on. One good example of this is, in India some schools have advised teenagers not to take school books home, so that, they can invest time on their personal preferences, hence, reducing the rate of mental issues among youth.

In conclusion, it is evident from above discussion, homework have more demerits than merits and it is important for governments and parents to take necessary steps in order to bring talent in their off-springs. In my opinion, too much home-task can cause psychiatric problems in students and confine their non-academic talents, whereas on the flip side, less home-task helps in making them relaxed and focus on recreational activities.
