Citizens of numerous countries are facing health related problems due to high consumption level of fast-food. Some people believe that centrally imposed taxes on this items can be beneficial for mitigation of its consumption. I strongly agree to this school of thought.
There is no doubt whatsoever that intaking large and/or frequent amount of fast-food can pose a risk of suffering from chronic illnesses. A higher tax rate can prevent consumers from buying fast-food as the inflation is already high enough in this era that spending large sum of monthly budget on fast -food wouldn’t seem logical. This will have a hit on one of the two lucrative feature of street food i.e. price leaving only addictive taste as a feature. A recent study as shown that 45 percent of people opted for fast-food only because it is cheap.
On the other hand, higher tax rate on fast-food can also trigger a sense of anger in the general public. Fast-food has become one of the top routes of satisfaction in day-to-day life. Fast-food is addictive and cheap, fulfilling the needs of young generation who often neglect the health risk it comes with.
To conclude I believe that increasing selling price of fast-foods is beneficial for lowering its rate of consumption.
