Nowadays, the crime rate is at its peak in some countries, particularly among young people. Therefore, it’s essential to implement appropriate measures and punishments for young offenders. There are several factors which play a significant role in promoting crimes.
One of the primary causes of crime among the young people is unemployment. When youngsters are unable to find jobs they may feel frustrated and financially unstable. As a result, they adopt the shortcuts to get the enough money to meet their basic needs. Overpopulation and intense competitions in education and employment further exacerbate the problem. For instance, the strict marking criteria in exams often lead to failure among literate candidates, increasing their frustration and vulnerability to criminal activities.
Another significant factor contributing to youth crime is the lack of quality education. Educational opportunities are often unevenly distributed between urban and rural areas, resulting in higher illiteracy rates in rural communities. Consequently, many young people in these areas are deprived of the skills and knowledge needed for a stable livelihood, and some resort to crime as an alternative means of survival.
Addressing this issue requires both preventive and corrective measures. Social settings play a crucial role in guiding the younger generation, raising awareness about the distinction between the right and wrong and promoting ethical behavior. Governments should establish rehabilitation centers for young offenders to help them reintegrate into society. Moreover, the laws should be strictly implemented, and everyone should be held accountable for their actions to maintain social order. For instance, countries like China have a comparatively low crime rate due to strict law enforcement and proactive policing measures.
From my perspective, it’s important to reduce crime by implementing laws and initiating awareness campaign for youth. Education should be free and easily accessible to everyone, and governments are responsible for provide more employment means to young blood rather than relying solely on punishment. In conclusion, authorities should focus on the root causes of crimes, as punishing criminals alone is not a sufficient solution.
