In many parts of the world, online shopping has gained popularity among the public and eclipsed in-store shopping. I believe that this phenomenon has both advantages and disadvantages which will be shed light on by the essay.
To begin with, there are many drawbacks that the customers may face with when shopping on the Internet. Firstly, delivered items are less likely to match their expectations. This will result in the frustration of the shoppers, as they find their time and money are wasted on the products given after making the buying decision thoroughly. Secondly, customers can be victimised by computer crimes. As a sad truth, these crimes are getting more and more dangerous; therefore, buyers may lose a large amount of money and also put a financial burden on them. For example, the offenders can set up a fake website containing a spyware, which allows them to steal victims’ money via ID information collected.
However, shopping through online markets is also beneficial in many ways. A noticeable feature of this method is the fact that the public would have things delivered to doors without moving away from their desks. Even if the person is from another country, the stuffs still would be able to reach he or she, since online shopping has the ability of moving transnationally. Hence, this feature is believed to promote international trade. On a smaller scale, setting up a business working online is much more feasible for sole traders thanks to the dramatical reduction of money to spend on rents or staffing, so these sellers may focus greater on making a profit out of their goods.
In conclusion, it is evident that shopping online has both its pros and cons. From my perspective, there should be some definite actions to get rid of hi-tech crimes and to encourage companies to strive for better products and services. By doing that, it can balance the number of people making a purchase between online and offline methods.
