Band 8+: In some countries, the government has tried to reduce traffic. For instance, they imposed a congestion tax during rush hour. Do you think this development is positive or negative?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In several parts of the world, authorities have implemented congestion charges during peak hours to reduce traffic. This essay will explain why I strongly believe this is a constructive change, as it can lower air and noise pollution in major cities and also support improvements in public transportation systems.

First and foremost, charging drivers for entering busy areas at rush hour can discourage unnecessary car use, which means there would be fewer vehicles on the roads and, as a result, this will lead to less exhaust fumes and noise. In many large cities, most people rely on private cars for commuting, which is one of the main reasons congestion becomes severe at peak times. Therefore, a congestion fee can help improve air quality and create a calmer atmosphere in urban life.

Additionally, heavy traffic often causes stress and frustration for commuters, making their daily journey unbearable. Spending long hours stuck in traffic can lead to mental strain, especially in fast-paced metropolitan areas. In fact, health statistics over recent decades depict that many people experience high levels of stress due to the constant pressure of city life. Reducing traffic can make daily travel less exhausting and improve citizens’ overall well-being.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that congestion fees during peak hours are a positive step forward. Not only because they can reduce emissions and noise levels in crowded cities, but they can also provide additional funding to improve public transport, which encourages people to depend less on their private cars. In the long run, this policy can help create cleaner, calmer, and more habitable urban environments.

In contemporary society, university tuition fees are covered by some governments, while in others, students have to bear the cost themselves.
