Public safety is a notable area of concern when it comes to peaceful conduct of a nation’s law and order, which can be only achieved by hiring the right set of police officials. In certain economies, the data of police officials in combat duty is declining significantly. This essay is going to elucidate the causes behind this alarming trend along with the substantial impacts that it can have on the society.

To shed some light on the possible factors, one of the prime reasons for this downfall is the mental strain that the police have to go through in solving societal issues. Police authorities have no definite working hours which results in disruption of their work-life balance. Moreover, they are not paid adequately for the sterling duty that they perform. To cite an example, statistics suggests that underpayment and ill-treatment pushed a whopping number of officers towards resignation, allowing them to consider other lucrative occupations.

The repercussions of this fashion on the society are indispensable. Lack of police force results in violation of code of conduct and upheaval of law and order of a nation, this leads to social unstability which in turn causes communal riots. Furthermore, lack of security is another notable outcome of such a shift, it can have severe impact on a country like India where people hold multi- dimensional views on distinct public matters. Lastly, it leaves an immense impact on the working hours of existing personnels. For an instance, understaffed police force in a developing country is obliged to work for supplementary hours with no provisions of overtime payment.

To summarize, the drop in number of police authorities is causing predicament in the humankind, the aftermath of which includes increased crime rates, a lack of public safety and inconvenience amongst the active police force.
