Band 5+: In some countries, the role of a mother differs in some ways from the role of a father. Why do you think these differences exist? How might parental roles develop in the future?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In several nations, there are distinctions in term of father and mother’s role in a family. It probably happen due to cultural factor owned by those countries.. However, in my perspective, both female and male parents should have equal role.

Every country is unique because of its culture, including how parents act within a family. The way how a family leader organizes things is influenced by the value of local tradition existing in that area. For example, in Arab Saudi, which majority value is paternity, fathers become the leader of families whose responsibility is working to fulfil the financial needs, while mothers stay at home to do the house chores and take care of children. Most of the women should not go out of home without permission from their husbands. This kind of rule are made because of Arabic culture.

However, nowadays, this type of difference in role taken by male and female is irrelevant. There are many social movements demanding an equal position, role in a family is included. Parents should support each other to maintain a happy family. I can imagine a family in which both parents are working, they have the same responsible in earning money for family needs. The tasks for taking care households can be divided evenly. For instance, mother do the cleaning and fathers handle the laundry. The same thing also occurs in taking care of the children. If this equal role is taken, there is no one who feel burdened because everyone has his/her job description.

Culture are able to influence how parents take their role in a family, and many places with different value will own different rules. Despites these differences, I think the role of both female and male parents should be equal in order to create harmony within the family.
