Band 4+: In some countries, the role of a mother differs in some ways from the role of a father. Why do you think these differences exist? How might parental roles develop in the future?

In any part of the world, the role of mother and father in a family differs in some ways. The differences due to some reasons and it is possible to develop time by time.

Most of the division of role between mother and father comes from the culture in the society. Conservative family has typical ways applied in the family that mostly father as the main leader who made the division of role between him and his wife. In some countries, the wife stayed at home all day and played domestic role for instance take care of the children, while husband work outside since to get some money for the kids and his wife. To compare, modern family has less differences between the role of mother and father. As modern mother, some woman already has some jobs outside houses. Even some of them work at the same office with her husband. So, the domestic role played by housekeeper and a nanny hired to take care the children.

Since it depends on the societal culture, the division of role between mother and father may change during the modernization. It can affect people’s mind about what should mother and father do for their family. Technology and industry also play an important role to reduce some role of family member at home, for example washing machines replace mother role washing the clothes, online cleaning service replace father role to clean the car and the garage, the Nanny’s agent replace the role of mother rock a bay the baby and the role of father to play with the baby. Those all are reduce the differences between the role of mother and father at home.

To conclude, the difference between the role of mother and father in some countries depend on the culture of the society. It possibly developed in the future due to the modernization and the technological and industrial development.
