In modern society, there’s a growing tendency for adults to delay childbearing. There are a lot of factors which contribute to this trend, and I strongly believe that the disadvantages would outweigh the benefits.
According to popular opinions of Gen Z, entering parenthood later in life results from many reasons. First of all, this decision gives them more time to accumulate experiences when they are still young. People nowadays tend to travel more than people of the same age in the past because it is considered as enjoying life. It is a common belief that settling down shortens their free time for travelling and makes it harder to enjoy the trip with a baby to take care of. Moreover, in the increasingly competitive labour market, it is understandable that young people have to prioritize their academic achievements and financial stability. As a result, adults feel the need to focus on personal fulfilment and accomplishing goals before starting a family.
However, besides the benefits of delayed childbearing brought up above, society might face threats if too many people decide to follow this trend. Indeed becoming parents at an old age would give more experience but it also brings some potential health risks and birth defects, especially after the age of 35. Thus, this could hugely affect the quality of the future workforce. Besides, parents at an advanced age might not have enough energy and stamina to provide childcare. Hence, it affects their ability to supply suitable and appropriate care, most needed for infants and small children. Last but not least, having a child at such an old age would create a much bigger generation gap. Consequently, it is harder for parents to share and communicate with their children resulting in weakening the family bond.
In summary, delayed childbirth might seem more appealing in this competitive and fast-paced society. However, young people should consider the cons which have outweighed the pros to reduce the negative impacts not only on the society but also on their personal family life
