In a few countries teenagers are advised to do work or travel for one year after completing their high school studies and prior to professional studies. In my opinion, for refreshing their mind and gaining some experience in particular field are two potential benefits of this. Nonetheless, wastage of time and diverting focus from long-term goals are two ultimate drawbacks of this situation. These will be discussed here.
Planning for an excursion or to join a company as a worker for a year is positive for relaxation and increasing knowledge in life. Predominantly, many individuals lower their studies stress after exams. They spend leisure time that give them opportunity to think what they want to do in their lives. Second, people who choose to work, they gather some experience which help them in analyzing the particular sector and enhance their curiosity when they join university coaching for higher studies in same professions. For example, Architecture course, being a doctor, Engineering, Business management.
However, preferring one year trip or apprenticeship impede the growth of career and derail youngsters from their track are two disadvantages of this case. In particular, the development of students ceased when they squander their precious time on holidays and working in small companies rather than focusing on the future goals because they did not know the value of a year. Furthermore, it is a good time for them to practice hard and crack the entrance exam for admission in accredited college for further studies. They would have a chance to win scholarships which reduce their burden of course fees. For becoming a technical expert and a renowned businessman in life.
In conclusion, encouraging youth to work and travel before major studies have pros. and cons. From my perspective, sometimes it reduce their focus from long-term targets by wasting time. Conversely, it is ultimately beneficial for those who want to think about what to be in life without taking any hasty decisions.
