Band 4+: in some countries, younger people are neglecting their right to vote. What problems does this cause and what are some of the possible solutions?

In Handful countries youth are not using their right to cast their votes. This may lead to some very serious consequences which include, incompetent leaders leading the nation, and polices formation which are not youth centric. Whereas, some of the solutions of this problem are, provide some incentive to youth for casting vote, and to run grand level awareness campaigns.

One of the major problem of youth not using their right to vote is, when not enough people will cast their vote this will bring back those leader who were incompetent in their previous tenure, this will not only affect the overall countries future but will also affect the development and growth of that country. Moreover, another issue which may arise is that, new leader who is not the choice of youth of the nation will make such policies which are not for the betterment of youth. For example, in 2007 elections which were held in Pakistan, not many youth showed-up to cast their vote, which later lead to election of corrupt leader who was already charged with many corruption cases before he won the elections which lead to poor economic growth for Pakistan for next 5 years and no polices were made for the betterment of Pakistani youth.

One of the solution for this problem is, giving incentives to young who are eligable to vote, where giving away small sum of money for casting vote, or giving gift cards for any food joint may motivate youth to come out and cast their votes. In addition to this government may run infomational campaigns inorder to motivate youth and make them understand importance of casting vote, and how casting vote can positively contribute towards their future. For example, in recent election may youth turned out to cast their vote in Pakistan because the opposition party PTI did and intensive campaign inorder to motivate and make young genration understand how important it is to cast their votes.

In conclusion, if youth won’t practice their right to vote, this will eventually elect leader who don’t have leadership skills, also new leadership may make polices which are not in favor of youth of that country. While on the other hand this can be solved if youth are motivated through some reward or gifts, or by doing informational campaigns to spread awareness of voting among youth.
