In today’s rapidly evolving world, various innovative methods have replaced animal-based production processes, establishing themselves as eco-friendly solutions to meet people’s fundamental needs across the globe. While environmental advocates argue that such approaches hold great potential to tackle numerous ecological challenges such as global warming, I firmly oppose the idea of substituting livestock-derived goods and I will elaborate on my reasons in the following essay.
First and foremost, the world is witnessing a significant population surge, which has become a pressing concern for nations. Consequently, it is reasonable to argue that a growing population necessitates a reliable supply of essential commodities. Without animal-sourced materials, meeting humanity’s fundamental needs could pose substantial challenges. While alternative production sources such as plant-derived materials play a significant role in meeting people’s necessities, their capacity is often deemed limited due to the widespread impact of climate change phenomena, including drought. A prime example is India; the second most populous country in the world, which has been grappling with one of the most severe droughts in recent years. This presents a significant concern for authorities in meeting needs of individuals. In the absence of animal-based resources such challenges would undoubtedly become even more pressing.
Conversely, livestock-derived products not only serve as viable alternatives to plant-based materials, they also create numerous employment opportunities. In other words, animal products have generated a wide array of jobs. In particular, residents of rural areas engage in livestock-related industries such as poultry farming and cattle ranching. Alongside these industries, various manufacturing workshops have been established, producing goods needed by local communities. These collaborative activities are among the most prominent sources of income worldwide. For instance, the rural areas in Iran play a crucial role in producing a considerable amount of animal-based raw materials, which are then utilized in various industries, including pharmaceuticals and textiles.
In conclusion, while reducing reliance on livestock-based materials may provide unique environmental benefits, particularly in addressing climate change, these products remain essential due to their significant role in creating job opportunities and meeting humanity’s fundamental needs.
