It has been observed that many people rely on the internet when storing knowledge, whereas individuals used to preserve knowledge through books. Although there might be some drawbacks of this trend, I believe that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
On the one hand, storing information on the internet can have several benefits. This is because individuals can easily access information through online libraries or other websites. Unlike printed knowledge, one can search for particular information from the internet in a short time. Wikipedia serves as a relevant example. Having searched for particular information, individuals can spend their time more efficiently. Such a development can be beneficial for people who live in remote areas since they can look for information from their immediate zone instead of commuting for long distances.
On the other hand, such a development can be budget friendly. This stems from the fact that storing knowledge in books require financial resources for materials such as paper and ink. However, technological advancements have enabled people to store or share their knowledge on the internet for free. While financially burdened people are less likely to spend money on printed books, online libraries and e-books can be chosen since they do not require additional costs. Take people from low-income families as an example, storing knowledge in books or buying them can be challenging, while online libraries and e-books can provide the same for free. Not only do online libraries and e-books offer free knowledge but they can also prevent people from splashing out on printed books.
Admittedly, storing knowledge in books can play a crucial role in preserving national identity or history. In other words, printed books, texts and letters can help individuals to know about their own history or traditions, causing to a sense of belonging and identity. My country, Uzbekistan, serves as a pertinent example. Individuals can learn about their culture and history through printed books since such books contain information about various ancient events. Having stored knowledge in books, individuals can preserve their national identity in the long term.
To conclude, while printed books can preserve national identity and traditions, I believe that the advantages of storing knowledge on the internet overshadow the drawbacks since such a development can be time-efficient and budget friendly.
