Nowadays, due to the development of technology and Internet as well as the increase in the standard of life, student can have access to alternative information form a variety of references. Therefore, there is a controversial opinion that denies the importance of teachers in the-state-of-the-art education. In my perspective, the role of teachers still has a major impact on our society because of the limited abilities of students and also the great demands of residents in teaching career.
First of all, although there is numerous creditable information online or in available libraries, the proportion of students who are capable of totally acquiring knowledge and adopting self-study method is not high in the comparison to who can not. However, a great instructor might guide pupils to the root of a theory that they can not understand by themselves, and this has been demonstrated true through out history. For example, in some subjects such as mathematics or physics, teachers not only explain the solutions for the problems (which are accessible on the Internet) but also offer the methods to deal with similar issues with their experience that really help the students who can not think logically, critically or have low IQ. Moreover, the discipline of students is also emphasized because there are always motivations to accomplish their homework which are called the expectations from teachers.
Another factor the contributes to maintaining the existence of teachers is the needs for it from parents and government. For parents, teachers are both supervisors who make sure their offspring pay attention to study and also tutors who explain the meaning of learning and satisfy the curiosity of their little children. For the government, academic curriculum is a tool to pass on their statements about various things such as their paths on policy, legislation, religions, economic development, etc. Hence, the unemployment rate of students who have certificates on education fields is quite low, for instance, Vietnam has just only 2% in recent survey.
In conclusion, in spite of having access to a wide source of information, teachers still play a vital role for many individuals in the present day. However, this trend might alter in the future when Artificial Intelligence is developed to replicate this job.
