The feature of intelligence is regarded as the most important characteristic for a leader. This essay will explore why I fully disagree that for leaders, intelligence is the most essential personal quality.
Firstly, intelligence is one of the most crucial character for everyone, including leaders. When it is in the group work, intelligence is not enough to lead a whole group, it is secondary attribute. People who have personal attributes except intelligence, still can lead the group well but the ones who are only intelligent cannot lead the group really well. Instead of this leaders should have alternative character traits. For example, integrity, empathy, resilience, discipline, accountability, responsibility.
Secondly, leaders main job is not knowing the most, it is influence people. The best politicians in the world is not that extreme intellectual genius but they can easily lead the whole country. For instance, Albert Einstein was one of the most intelligent people in history but he was not a great political or organizational leader. Research in psychology shows that emotional intelligence often matters more than IQ in leadership. Leader must understand people’s feeling, manage conflicts, motivate teams, stay calm under pressure, build trust.
