Band 5+: International tourism has become a huge industry in the world. Do the problems of international travel outweigh its advantages?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is a fact that internationally industrial tourism has a profound impact on many countries. Despite its negative effects on local environment and culture, its benefits are more significant.

Admittedly, some may say that demerits of global travel are in plain sight. Firstly, with the increase in the number of tourists has led to polluted environment. This is because, irresponsible travellers often leave a huge amount of rubbish after travelling. Moreover, to meet the demand of increasing tourism, resorts are built more which can destroy the ecosystem through over exploitation. However, government can mitigate these issues by raising tourists’ awareness or fining individuals, organisations who have negative impacts on the environment. Secondly, local people can gradually loss their cultural identity with the influx of foreign visitors. New Zealand, for instance, has exposed to other countries’cultures for years, which has been linked to fewer traditional festivals. Nevertheless, government can raise local people’s awareness by promoting their culture like restoring traditional festivals.

Despite the downsides mentioned earlier, I believe that advantages can outweigh disadvantages. A major merit is that global tourism contributes significantly to the economic growth. Because of more tourists travelling, there can be more jobs for local people. Therefore, the employability rate can be increased. As a result, local resident can have a better lifer and improve their living standards.

In conclusion, although international travel industry can impact negatively on the local culture and environment, I believe that government’s actions can tackle these problems and economic contribution of global tourism can overshadow those drawbacks.
