Many regions around the world have seen tremendous growth through international tourism. Some people argue that it’s beneficial for the locals and the environment, however others believe that it may have a negative impact on both. In my opinion, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages regarding tourism beyond national boundaries.
International tourism can have a rather significant impact on both the local and the national economy. Capital flows in a certain region, leading not only to new jobs and opportunities for local inhabitants, but also to new developments and financial strength. People can thus prosper with foreign investment. In addition, international tourism contributes to an organic exchange of ideas, cultures and traditions between different population groups, which leads to a healthy way of globalization. Besides that, it can provide positive exposure to a certain region that would otherwise be forgotten and highlight its natural beauty and charm.
Among the drawbacks, it could be noted that tourism can reach a discomforting level, especially regarding inhabitants. Local groups can face discrimination; however, it seems that people around the globe seem to leave behind such outdated beliefs. In addition, international tourism could have a negative impact on the environment through overwhelming building and industrialization. To combat this, countries have increased regulations around tourist hotspots. There is also a possibility of gradual displacement of local populations throughout the years of extensive tourism, but it could be argued that in a globalized world, communities tend to get all the more positive to multicultural groups.
In conclusion, even though there are points to be made regarding the disadvantages that international tourism could lead to, there are more advantages that are evident about international tourism.
