International tourism has become much more common in recent years. While some people believe this is a positive development, others think it causes serious problems. In my opinion, although international tourism has some benefits, it also creates more disadvantages, especially for developing countries and the environment.
On the one hand, international tourism can bring economic benefits to many countries. Tourists spend money on hotels, food, transport and entertainment, which helps to create jobs and improve local businesses. In addition, tourism allows people from different cultures to meet and learn from each other, which can increase mutual understanding.
On the other hand, international tourism causes several serious problems. One major issue is its negative social impact on poorer countries. Most international tourists come from rich countries, and their lifestyle can influence local communities in a harmful way. For example, in some tourist destinations, problems such as prostitution, drug abuse and alcoholism have increased because of mass tourism. As a result, local traditions and moral values may slowly disappear.
Another important problem is environmental damage. Popular tourist attractions often suffer from pollution and overcrowding. For instance, places like the Great Barrier Reef have been damaged by too many boats and visitors, while famous beaches in countries such as Indonesia are frequently polluted with rubbish. If tourism is not properly controlled, these natural attractions may be destroyed permanently.
In conclusion, although international tourism has certain advantages, I believe its disadvantages are more significant. Therefore, governments should control and manage tourism more carefully in order to protect local communities and the environment.
