Through the past few years, it is irrefutable that tourism industry has become a large portion of global trade. In fact, it is the backbone of economy in many countries. This situation has both pros and cons. In my opinion, its advantages outweigh the drawbacks. My reasons are twofold.
International tourism has many benefits for individuals, firstly, travelling abroad opens minds and broadens horizon. In other words, people experience various cultures and can learn different languages. Families devote their leisure time to going on holidays to relax and have fun, which helps strengthen their bond.
In addition, tourist trade is vital for some economies. More specifically, the financial resources of several areas rely on tourism. For instance, it provides regular employment in varied services for local people such as, accommodation, transport and entertainment. It also attracts investment from multi-national companies. Consequently, this industry helps enhance the standard of living.
On the other hand, tourism can impact negatively on the nature environment. To put it simply, if government does not impose effective laws against the pollution and waste produced by tourists, natural areas will be destroyed. The beautiful beaches that are being spoiled are one obvious example of this phenomenon. Moreover, the building of facilities and infrastructures can destroy the habitat of wild animals.
By way of conclusion, undoubtedly, tourism trade has increased dramatically in recent decades. While it has a number of disadvantages, I once again reaffirm my position that this industry has brought more benefits to economies and nations.
