In today’s fast-paced era, many people are increasingly using the internet to make financial transactions resulting in internet crime. This phenomenon can be attributed to various factors due to lack of knowledge of cybercrime. I personally believe that there are several solutions to tackle the issues including educating people and improving technology.
One of the significant causes of internet crime is lack of knowledge regarding cybercrime. This is therefore, people do not have awareness of the risks of internet crime and knowledge about that. As a result, many people are being cheated by scammers and hackers when they make financial transactions. For example, in Myanmar, many individuals are being scammed to hack their mobile banking passwords when they do online shopping. Then, they lose their money from their bank accounts because hackers steal their money from their credit cards. Furthermore, scammers send phishing emails to know the password and then users click the link and fill their passwords with bank information and their personal details.
To tackle this issue, there are several solutions to be suggested. Firstly, the government should provide educational campaigns to the public to get awareness of cyber crime. Moreover, teaching users how to recognize scam emails, use strong passwords and protect their data is essential. Secondly, the government should construct firewalls and use advanced technology to protect from cyber crime. For example, in the US, people are given information about cyber crime when they make payment by internet. Besides, the US government makes cybersecurity to protect the risks of scammers. As a consequence, there is less cyber crime occurring in the US.
In conclusion, internet crime is caused by a lack of awareness. However, with targeted education and improving technology , this threat can be effectively addressed.
