Freedom of Speech
Humanity has taken huge steps forward to make the world free for themselves. The general idea is that no matter where we come from, what we believe in, our gender, or the color of our skin, we all deserve to be free. Freedom of speech is only one aspect of being free, however, it is definitely an important aspect.
The smallest integer of the society is families. Freedom of speech starts with family and expands to whole countries. As long as everyone is free to express their ideas, and say what they think without worry, a family can function. The same goes for the society. We are all individuals and have our own ideas. Our special way of thinking. To create a happy society, you need happy individuals. Individuals won’t be happy if you censor their ideas, or punish them for their ideas. For example, we always get frustrated when our parents don’t listen to what we have to say. In a country, individuals will get frustrated if the government won’t listen to them. However, governments cannot count on every single idea. We need some kind of a filter.
Absolute freedom of speech means even the most ancient, unequal, and cruel ideas will be swarming all over the place. There is a fine line between considerable ideas and others that go beyond the limit. Complete freedom of speech can cause conflicts and even uprisings. It is easy to find ones who think like you, and as a nature of humans, we tend to take sides against people who don’t think like us.
In conclusion, we can think of freedom of speech as a long, thin stick, we should keep straight. It is difficult to keep it in balance and we cannot afford to lose it. It is necessary for a better society, however, I think that we still have a long way to go to decide where we should put a stop to freedom of speech.
