The prohibition of cars and public transportation from city centres is a suggestion that has been made where the only allowed method of transportation is bicycles. I disagree with such proposal due to the difficulties that would rise when riding a bicycle concerning health problems like asthma and the long garments Muslim women tend to wear.
Cycling requires a huge amount of physical work, more than riding a car or taking a bus does. Therefore, it would put stress on the lungs so you will need to exhale and inhale more than what the individual used to. In cases of healthy people, they might not have negative effects but individuals with respiratory problems, like asthma, might find this kind of exercise straining, not effective, and dangerous in some cases. As we are in a region that experiences a lot of dusty storms, cycling in such weather for people with such problems is considered deadly, as proved by lots of medical research.
As a Muslim population in Jordan, females tend to wear long flowy clothes, for example skirts and dresses. As a consequence, it would be highly dangerous for them to ride a bicycle since the risk of the garment getting entangled with the wheels and gears is almost inevitable. Furthermore, these gowns trap a large amount of heat, especially in the scorching summers that we experience in Jordan, this heating problem is multiplied when exerting the smallest physical activity making cycling a huge burden rather than a good transportation method.
In conclusion, banning cars and public transport will give rise to several issues that a great chunk of the population will suffer from especially those of breathing problems and long-garment-wearing individuals
