In today’s society,it’s anticipated that an escalating number of old people will dominate the demographic proportion within different countries in the future. As far as I am concerned, this phenomenon is of more drawbacks than benefits.
The foremost reason is that aging population adds economic pressure on governments. To be more specific,an escalating number of elderly people leads the labour force decease significantly, which resulting in a decline in the average income of the population and a reduction in tax revenues. At the same time, government administrations need to allocate more funds for healthcare services, such as pensions and medical treatments. For example, the countries’ investment in the healthcare industry was double that in 2020,while the number of elderly people increased by 1.5 times.
Furthermore, the aging population is likely to lead to a drop in the birth rate.In other words, young people today face not only economic pressures but also the responsibility of taking care of their aging parents and raising children. Because the cost of living has also increased, making it more challenging for young couples to afford starting a family. This not only adds to the financial burden but also affects the mental well-being of young individuals, as they struggle to balance work, family, and personal life. For instance, if both husband and wife are only children, they will have to take care of four elderly people.
In conclusion, because the higher proportion of elderly people bring a strong burden in countries’ economy and cause psychological stress for the young generation. Therefore, this essay supports that there are more negative impacts if the elderly population over the young individual.
