There is a view that open recreational spaces such as parks and squares are vital for the populations of all urban areas. I agree with this statement for three main reasons.
One key reason why I agree with the importance of public spaces is that parks and open areas improve social interaction between citizens leading to bring communities together. When families or friends spend quality time together with each other, they absolutely strengthen their social bonds by talking, laughing or having fun. Therefore, being in open communal spaces not only gives a chance to reduce the sense of loneliness, but also encourages people to be healthy by walking and cycling.
In addition, another significant point is that more public spaces can have a significant impact on the environment. If there are a lot of trees and plants in green spaces, it completely reduces pollutions which are huge problems in many towns and cities. They help to absorb carbon emissions since they are capable of introducing fresh air to their surroundings which leads to lower city temperatures, especially in overcrowded urban areas.
A final argument is that green gardens and open courtyards considerably improve mental well-being between individuals. When people are surrounded by nature, they can get a deep sense of relaxation and enjoyment which is an opportunity to escape the busy city lifestyle. As a result, green spaces give citizens a place to relax, thereby reducing daily stress and anxiety.
In conclusion, the benefits of green spaces include developed social interaction, a better environment and improved mental health. Therefore, I am in full agreement with the statement that public parks and squares are essential for urban areas.
