Some argue that we can learn other’s culture from books, films, and the Internet, instead of traveling to other countries. It is no denying that advanced technology has brought us so much convenience that we are able to search all the information we want through internet, while traveling to other locations to explore others culture is the other thing. From my perspective, I disagree with this statement.
The information we acquired from internet, books or films might outdated. Culture is formed by a group of people and as the time pass it might be changed from time to time. The information from books or films are most likely outdated becuase they are written in the past. For instance, in my country, the English textbook which is used to teach elementary students using the vocabalary “seldom” to describe “not often”. Therefore, we use “seldom” a lot when we talk in english. However, not until I traveled abroad, I reliszed that native speaker usually use “not often”, instead of “seldom”. Hence, if we stayed in the same place and just learn from books, it was easy to get preconception or learned false informations.
Moreover, traveling to other places and experiencing it by ourself can be more memorable than learning from films, because we are not just seeing seating in one place seeing it, we use all of our feelings to experience it. In addition, we are able to meet new friends from different places and learn more knowledges than we expected. Traveling is more like a adventure and we can explore the unknown by our foot.
In conclusion, learning the culture from books, films and the internet is a good option, but it is better for people to go abroad and experience the culture on our own.
