In recent years, there has been considerable debate about whether young adults need to participate in voluntary work for a certain period of time to help their surroundings. Personally, I believe that encouraging young people to engage in unpaid work would be very beneficial for fostering personal development and social responsibility. This essay will explore both perspectives, positive and negative, to determine whether the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
One of the primary benefits of young adults participating in volunteer work, including helping the elderly, the sick, and disabled people, or participating in charitable activities like educating young children who are unable to read in school, is that it may increase social participation, foster a sense of community, and promote a deeper understanding of societal issues, as well as contribute to the overall well-being of society.
Other advantages include personal and professional development by becoming familiar with the surrounding community and understanding the status of people. Engaging in such activities can improve leadership abilities, teamwork, and communication skills, which provide significant advantages in career development. Additionally, these experiences help young adults build confidence and a sense of purpose, ultimately preparing them to face future challenges with greater resilience and empathy.
However, there may be some disadvantages if young people provide free service helping people in need. It may pose challenged in those young people who are already burdened with academic or financial pressures. Allocating time for the unpaid work from their normal time might detract from their ability to focus on study or part-time jobs, potentially affecting their long-term goals. Furthermore, some may feel exploited if their contributions are undervalued or assign the jobs which are not aligning with their interest. But I think this sort of problems can be easily taken care of by meticulous planning by the designate authorities.
To conclude, competitiveness of modern life and influence of global culture have isolated children from their neighborhood.so, making them do some voluntary work would be very beneficial to make today’s children feel part of the society they live in as well it helpful for future development.
