It is evident that extreme consumption of sugar can result in various health problems. Some people argue that governments should control people’s intake of sugar, while others believe that it is individuals’ responsibility. Although, the control of goverments can result in dissatisfaction of citizens, I think that goverments should be responsible for the issue in question.
On the one hand, many people claim that the consumption of sugar should be regulated solely by people because governments’ control can infringe on individuals’ freedoms. Opponents of this side of the argument believe that the control of the amount of sugar individuals consume can make people dissatisfied by the work of the government as it takes away their freedom of choice. Moreover, overreliance on goverment can lead to the lack of self-discipline, which is key to the medical problems, such as obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure.
On the other hand, governments are responsible for regulation of numerous issues, including overconsumprion of sugar because they have power in implementing taxes and raising awareness among people. By implementing sugar taxes, governments can contribute to the decline of sugar consumption. For example, in the UK and Mexico suagr taxes have been used to control sugary drink products consumption. In addition, governments have power to raise awareness about health problems the intake of sugary products can lead to.
In conclusion, many people claim that individuals are responsible for the control of sugar consumption. However, I believe that it should be regulated by governments, as they have power to implement taxes and boost awareness.
