Technology has progressed by leaps and bounds. It has altered every aspect of life and field of education is also not untouched with its effects. Some people claim that teachers would soon be replaced by computers. I partially agree with aforementioned notion and will discuss in the subsequent paragraphs.
According to those who support this belief, computers are storehouses of information. They contain huge knowledge on all topics, more than many teachers. For example, Google Search is the most used search engine on the World Wide Web across the platforms. Moreover, their audio-visual capacity is very influential. Children become attentive with a combination of pictures and sounds. To illustrate, they help to reduce verbalism which is a major weakness of schools. Additionally, they have an easy access and are convenient to use. Knowledge can be acquired by all students at their own pace by using computers, whereas some teachers are too fast for them. Thus, they act as a brilliant aid in teaching.
On the other hand, others feel that teachers role is unparalleled. Human contact has a positive influence. Interest and concentration in studies increases by sitting in a classroom with other students. Social awareness and communication skills are improved by studying from a class teacher. Besides, teachers can monitor the progress of students which computers cannot. Computers only tell what is asked. For example, teacher’s existence is required to guide students regarding their strengths and weaknesses.
To summarize, although computers play an imperative role in education but role of teachers is unrivalled. Computers only facilitate education system but cannot substitute teacher’s work.
