The advent of cars in Scotland, Wales and England was in 1888. Just over a century later, there is an exorbitant 29 million vehicles driving in britain. I believe that different means of transport should be normalised and rules should be implemented globally to help mitigate the rise in number of vehicles on roads. This is because not only does the high number of cars pose a significant threat to road safety, but it is also a major contributer to the worsening of climate change.
Various motor vehicles are serious hazards on our roads as drivers are becoming more and more reckless. Road accidents involving cars have become increasingly common, with both drivers and innocent pedestrians getting hurt during the collison. The fact that roads’ capacities for cars has long been exceeded increases the risk of injury even more. As a result, the figure for the number of deaths caused by car-related accidents has reached the millions in the past decade alone.
Moreover, many cars burn high volumes of fuel which has resulted in a surge in carbon dioxide emissions. Because there is a large number of cars on the roads, this has accelerated the effects of global warming due to the ozone layer becoming becoming oversaturated with millions of gallons of greenhouse gases everyday. As a result, global temperatures are expected to rise by a whopping 2 degrees Celcius on average by 2050.
To conclude, the staggering number of cars on roads is causing significant issues since they increase the risk of accidents occuring and their exhaust gases are damaging the environment. It is my firm belief that the number of vehicles in action should be limited world wide and different means of travel become more common.
