Due to unprecedented growth in advanced technology, people in the twenty-first century were predicted to have more free time than before. While this prediction can be true to some extent, I believe that people in the twenty – first century are becoming busier and busier because of breakthroughs in technology.
On the one hand, twenty-first century citizens can have more leisure time because of improvements in technology. To begin with, the introduction of household gadgets enable individuals to have their housework done in a short time and therefore, people have more time to relax and rest. Take vacuum robot as an example. This robot can clean, vacuum and mop the entire house automatically, meaning that people do not need to spend a great deal of time to polish their house. Furthermore, the invention of modern machines in the workplace allows employees to work faster with more efficiency and productivity. For example, a Norwegian company have applied AI-power office machine, resulting in staff can complete organizational documents in ease.
Despite the above-mentioned benefits, I think that people in the twenty-first century are becoming busier due to technology. First, those who from low socioeconomic background often find that it is difficult to afford modern technology. As the result, they have to spend more time doing housework. In terms of work, advancement in technology support people to work faster but it also allows them to devote their time in other jobs.
In conclusion, while advancements in technology enable people to have more free time, I believe that this is not true for people who are not wealthy and those who juggle multiple jobs.
