Nowadays, promoting different products through sports events is favoured by large firms. In this regard, many people believe that there is a detrimental impact on sports. Personally I agree with the statement and believe that there are many irrefutable downsides of this action, which will be discussed and supported by relevant examples in this essay.
On the one hand, maximising the benefits of sports tournaments may bring a lot of undeniable benefits for large firms. By promoting their goods, they are significantly contributing to the economy of a country since they are responsible for taxes, leading to a more developed economy and the overall living condition of citizens. Not only does this boost a nation’s economy, it also helps those who are in need of a product. For example, by watching worldwide tournaments, people may see various advertisements appearing in many matches, enhancing the brand image of a company or a product. Therefore, when they need to buy something, their list of options drops down easily within a second and they may find a desired product. Because of these merits, large companies should run more advertisements based on sports to promote their products.
On the other hand, the use of sports events to promote products has contributed to the growth of many multinational firms. For instance, fans of badminton are often inspired to purchase high-quality rackets endorsed by famous players, which boosts sales and expands brand recognition. However, this practice can also lead to significant challenges. Athletes, under pressure to fulfill advertising contracts, may prioritize commercial commitments over their training, resulting in exhaustion and stress. Moreover, the rise of counterfeit products, falsely marketed as official merchandise, not only damages the reputation of companies but also undermines the trust of consumers. These issues highlight the potential adverse effects of excessive commercialization in sports.
In conclusion, although there are different negative impacts on sports when large firms use it to advertise, I would argue that utilizing sports tournaments fosters the development of a country, and it also support people in choosing their products faster.
