Oftentimes, people immigrate to foreign countries for better opportunities such as education, jobs and even love; however, they fail to take into account the language barrier within those countries. The lack of communication with the indigenes when having difficulty speaking their language can cause serious social issues as well as real-life-threatening situations. In my opinion, it is pertinent for survival to avoid social alienation and strenuous events.
Many people suffer from being alienated from the community for many reasons, one is communication. In a working environment which requires an individual to speak the local dialect such a person can be separated from his peers because there is a language barrier between him and his co-worker. This is also the case in a local community where an individual relocates. Furthermore, residents are more receptive toward you as speaking their language means you accept their culture.
In addition, we can find ourselves in an unfortunate situation that needs immediate assistance. Supposedly an individual is stranded on the road without means of getting to his destination, he/she would require the indigenes of the country to help him. However, the event would become tedious if the individual can not speak their language, leaving a person in disarray until a person who understand the individual comes to assist. This is time-consuming, inefficient and detrimental to a person’s state of mind, believing help might never come.
In conclusion, the idea to learn the country’s language while living in their nations helps to improve an individual’s relationship with the citizen. The resident would believe that you respect and appreciate their way of life, allowing you to build a social environment to live in. Moreover, they are more inclined to help with any difficult situation and less weary of you as a non-indigene
