In today’s world, people’s dressing habits are affected by global fashion trends. Global fashion became a main influencer on people’s lives because of the development of social media platforms and advertisements there. In my opinion, following global fashion trends is a positive tendency. However, it is more essential to wear items that are comfortable and fit the individual in order to not lose their traditions.
To begin with, there are many reasons why global fashion became so influential. Firstly, social media platforms, such as Instagram and TikTok, allow trends to spread worldwide, where the role of bloggers and celebrities is irreplaceable. Secondly, the globalization process caused the exposure of people to different cultures and styles. Another factor is psychological reasons, because most people would like to look modern to feel more confident. For example, most individuals opine that social status can be expressed only through fashion trends; therefore, they prefer to wear only globally accepted fashion trends.
This tendency can have positive aspects, such as cultural exchange, boosting creativity, and personal confidence. People have a chance to experience other cultures’ styles. For example, in Azerbaijan, young people tend to follow Korean and American fashion trends, which are widespread on the Internet. Additionally, mixing different traditional styles, which is very popular in global fashion, boosts the creativity of designers.
Nevertheless, this tendency can have negative outcomes. Following global trends sometimes can result in the loss of cultural identity and consumerism pressure. Some individuals may feel forced to buy certain items to “keep up with trends.” As a result of keeping up with global trends, traditional styles can be abandoned in favour of Western fashion. For example, most people, especially young ones, prefer the styling of Korean pop artists over wearing traditional clothes.
Taking everything into consideration, the Internet, globalization, and some psychological factors result in an increase in the influence of global trends on the public. I opine that it is a positive development, because this tendency ensures cultural exchange and creativity. However, it is also important to preserve local traditions and follow personal preferences regarding fashion.
