Cause And Solution

Band 8+: Many cities around the world are becoming increasingly overcrowded. What are the causes of this problem? What solutions can be implemented?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the contemporary world of sharply rising populations, there are more overcrowded points on the earth. This essay will explore the major causes of urbanization and viable measures to tackle them.

Overcrowding is primarily driven by the centralization of career and educational opportunities, as well as the appeal of better infrastructure in bustling centers. While regional areas lack advanced academic knowledge and variety of vacancies, busy cities might have seen better career prospects to professionals with great ambitions. As an example, Almaty is a favorite destination for workers and ambitious students. There is data which shows that each seventh Kazakh lives in Almaty, which directly proves this statement. Another reason is citizens’ intent to live in areas with favorable infrastructure and qualified healthcare. Due to the fact that metropolitan centers offer well-developed local transport links, residential dwellings, and medical care, they attract many individuals. For instance, schools for over 12,000 children and new medical facilities have been built in Almaty just this year. This demonstrates that massive cities provide more opportunities for comfortable conditions.

There are some effective solutions: constructing educational or industrial hubs. If the government attempts to develop strategy by making specialized regional hubs, specialists could choose the city that is closest to their goals. For example, this is similar to China’s successful model of dedicated specialized zones, like Shenzhen as the city of technology and Shanghai as a tourist hub and others. By decentralizing sectors to rural areas, citizens who are cut off from resources would have government services and employment opportunities equal to those in major cities. Another effective measure is the equal distribution of state budget. By investing in smaller towns, residents could use high-quality medical facilities and academic options, which means it would reduce the necessity to migrate in search of a better life.

To summarize, seeking job options and learning possibilities, as well as having foundation for high standards of living, is a crucial motive to migrate to crowded cities. However, we could implement polycentric development and provide regional funding equally to achieve fair conditions in society.
