Band 6+: Many cities have serious problems with traffic congestion. What are the causes of these problems and what are some possible solutions?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the contemporary world, traffic jams have become a pressing challenge in many cities, and this problem has caused serious consequences for inhabitants. In this essay, I will examine some underlying reasons for this trend and propose a number of viable methods in order to combat it.

A range of cause are responsible for the problem mentioned above. One reason for the increasing number of private vehicles. This is because, many people prefer to use their car and motorbikes because ist is more convenient and save-time. For instance, in many big cities, the number of individual transports has increased faster than the development of public transportation. As a result, traffic becomes heavier, especially during rush hours when people go to work or pick up their children from schools, leading to severe congestion in big cities. Another factor that contributes to this situation is the lack of modern and well-maintained transport infrastructure. To clarify, many cities still rely on small, old, or damaged roads. In addition, the public transportation system in some places is not developed. For instance, in Vietnam, the subway system is only available in Hanoi. Because of the lack of investment in road expansion and public transport, the problem of traffic jams becomes worse when the population and number of vehicles increase.

Several effective solutions can be implemented to address this issue, the most prominent of which is encouraging individuals to use public transportation. The government can invest in more transport services such as subways, bicycles-sharing systems, and public buses with affordable prices. This solution can reduce dramatically the number of private vehicles on the road and also help lower air pollution. Moreover, another feasible approach worth mentioning lies in the government should introduce regulations about owning vehicles. By allowing each individual to own only one vehicle to travel, if an individual chooses to purchase more, they are required to pay higher taxes and environmental costs. This method can help reduce traffic volumes.

In conclusion, traffic congestion is mainly caused by the increasing number of personal vehicles and the poor transport infrastructure. However, by improving public transport and controlling private vehicle ownership, cities can reduce traffic problems effectively.
