Band 6+: Many FLSS-ers participate in high school clubs to enhance their social life and foster personal development. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this trend.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

CNNers have been choosing to participate in various clubs in school in an attempt to better their social life and develop themselves. I contend that the benefits of this development outweigh its downsides for certain reasons elaborated in this essay.

Granted, certain negative implications are present with joining clubs for CNNErs. As part of a club, members are expected to carry some responsibility in completing the works assigned to them by the whole organization. Furthermore, CNN hold strict standards when it comes to academic performance, all students are to perform well in their studies. Consequently, most pupils are already dedicating a significant portion of their time and labor towards academic work. When the combined workload presented for CNN club members become too large, along with stringent time constraints and deadlines, pupils will be jeopardizing their school performance or their club responsibilities, as well as being at greater risk of developing psychological issues due to high stress levels. Not to mention that certain foul play may be present in some high school clubs, including the involvement of politics and favoritism from club managers towards members. This may lead members to contract dangerous and reactionary attitudes towards power, namely the undermining of democracy, among others.

However, the benefits of joining clubs are certainly more pronounced. All clubs are a collective, comprised of different people with varying temperaments, though similar in interests or passions. Being members of a club gives students a chance to work with people with different personalities than theirs, as well as acting as a great opportunity for them to network and connect with likeminded people, providing them crucial team work experiences and social relationships that can serve them in their careers later in life. Clubwork also enhances pupils’ discipline and work ethics, as it is collective in nature, and individual members must conform to standards set by the whole team. While the disadvantages requires assumptions such as a combination of high workload in both academic and extracurricular activities or the presence of certain dishonest behaviors, the benefits of joining clubs mentioned above are universally true in all circumstances.

To conclude, though downsides such as decreasing the quality of pupils’ mental health, jeopardizing academic performance or quality of clubwork, as well as taking up anti-progressive attitudes may be present, they are based on premises that seldom are the case, while the benefits, including an extended social circle, increased work ethics and experiences are offered for all regardless of time or circumstances. Therefore, I maintain that the advantages implications for CNNers when joining high school clubs greatly outweigh its disadvantageous counterparts.

The heated debate surrounding equality between motherhood and fatherhood is becoming increasingly prominent in contemporary society. There are competing views on what the primary responsibility of parenting should be. Those […]
