The heated debate surrounding equality between motherhood and fatherhood is becoming increasingly prominent in contemporary society. While some people believe that mothers should bear the primary responsibility for child-rearing, others argue that fatherhood ought to be emphasised as much as motherhood. In this essay, I will argue that paternal responsibility should be recognised as equally important and that fathers should play a more active role than women in parenting.

Traditional gender norms showed maternal role is the on top on raise children and it caused to sole responsibility in child rearing. For centuries, society held the view that raising children and managing the household fell primarily on women’s shoulders, and if a woman did not want children or was not ready for them, this was often met with a strange and judgmental reaction. However, these attitudes are simply remnants of traditional gender inequality that still persist in society today. This way of thinking has not only undermined gender equality but has also placed childcare and parental responsibility predominantly on one side. In today’s modern world, we need to do the opposite by reconsidering and moving away from this outdated mindset. Of course, in many developed countries, parental responsibilities are shared more equally, yet in some countries, even women’s basic rights are not fully upheld. A child’s balanced development requires the shared responsibility of both parents, since a child’s growth is not shaped by the motherhood alone.

Another reason is that sharing nature a child duties can strengthen family relationships. Family breakdowns and separations may often be linked to fathers failing to fulfil their parental responsibilities, while mothers are left carrying an excessive burden. This is precisely why society needs to challenge gender stereotypes and promote a more equitable division of parental duties. For instance, families should have access to both maternity and paternity leave. Responsibilities such as housework and childcare should also be shared by fatherhood.

A father’s involvement in raising children is extremely important. A child should not be raised by the mother alone; they also need paternal care, emotional support, educational guidance, and financial security. Nevertheless, in today’s society, the decision to have children is often placed primarily on women. In my view, this is partly justified, since a woman needs to be certain that raising and nurturing a child in the future will not become a burden that falls on her alone. That is why the making reproductive decision should be a mutual one, made in an environment built on trust and shared support.

In conclusion, fatherhood is equally important and cannot simply be overlooked. Motherhs and fathers should stand on an equal footing in terms of parental responsibility within the family. Raising a child is not task for the mother alone; a child’s well-being is shared responsibilities of the whole family.
