Nowadays, a large number of engineered foods contain very high amounts of sugar which are known to have detrimental impacts on the consumer’s life. It is suggested that governments are in charge of implying more taxes on sugary products to decline the rate of sugar consumption. What I would argue is that it is as an absolutely effective practice to promote a healthier lifestyle.
Non-balanced consumption of sugary foods not only increases the chance of diabetes, but can also expose individuals to diseases like obesity especially in the sedentary life of today. It is absolutely essential to raise awareness on the harmful outcomes of excessive sugar consumption and to find remedies to reduce it. One of the most effective ways is by boosting the prices of these kinds of products. For example, in England, the so-called “sugar tax” is hindering citizens from purchasing products that contain so much sugar which has caused this country to be among the healthiest countries of the world.
Moreover, Not only increasing the prices by tax implication is effective, but also vegetables and healthier products can be subsidized by the government to raise people’s incentives to buy these products more often and consequently, live a healthier life. If sugary products cost more than the healthy foods, a growing number of people will begin to unconsciously omit these foods from their lives especially if they do not have an opulent lifestyle or are not financially stable.
To sum up, the excessive calories consumed through sugar-based products causes serious health issues during time, and in my opinion, it can be ameliorated by putting strain on consumers for buying them by making them more expensive.
