In a time when people allocate more time to commute for school and work, people have differing views on whether this phenomenon represents a positive or a negative development. While both viewpoints hold some truth, I believe that it is a negative trend.
Proponents of this trend cite various reasons to support their stance. Perhaps one of the most notable advantages of the allocation of time on travelling to school or work is that it encourages people to be away from sedentary lifestyles. In an era characterized by technology, many people are busy with solitary activities such as scrolling through social media and binging-watching TV shows, neglecting outdoor activities. This, in turn, debilitates feelings of shyness and loneliness. In contrast, traveling to other destinations helps commuters to explore nature, socialize with other people, make new friends, and improve their overall well-being by walking and breathing fresh air.
Despite these arguments, I remain convinced that such an approach takes our time. Nowadays, people are suffering from hectic schedules and busy lifestyles fueled by heavy workloads and personal duties. Such excessive time can hurdle to manage their time effectively, potentially leading to stress. Moreover, this phenomenon exacerbates pre-existing traffic and climate issues. A lot of commuters contributes to a large number of cars on the road, making it difficult to reach on time. In addition to this, it plays an important role in perpetuating climate change issues such as a sudden increase in temperature due to excessive fossil gas emissions.
In conclusion, although I partially acknowledge the upside of spending time on traveling to educational places or workplace, I assert that it does more harm than good by taking our valuable time and making our roads congested with vehicles.
