It is often argued that students studying in high schools should be enabled to criticize their instructors, while some people believe that this phenomenon can result in the disrespect or even rudeness in educational environment.
Proponents of the first proposal assume that to ensure the equality at school, it is feasible for students to have more inquiries against their teachers. The rationale is that this opposite point of view among students can cultivate their critical thinking. If students have more perspectives about a certain range of knowledge or problem and then they discuss that with their tutors, they will not only remember the lessons better, but also understand the essence of the problem inclusively. Another convincing point is that this initiative if is applied can ensure an equal environment for students to study more effectively. Not only teachers can assess and criticize students but students can also do the same thing like the teachers; therefore, this can enhace the students’ confidence to give their own choices or perspectives.
However, this constructive proposal if is not kept at bay effectively can lead to serious moral consequences. Instead of discussing problems related to learning or moral issues during the studying and practicing process of students, students can capitalize on the new change to harass other students or even explain away their mistakes regardless of the moral extent. Hence, the initiative can not keep its first positive target.
In conclusion, although facilitating students to access with an environment that helps them to have diverse viewpoints can have lots of substantial benefits, this initiative can pose a threat on students’ ethics if it is not implemented appropriately. In my personal view, educational institutions should stimulate this new type of interaction between students and teachers but in an effective way to avoid being counterproductive.
