There is a common belief that equalising income of the rich and poor may create a productive and joyful society. Some people even say that it can be very beneficial both for the economy and citizens. I generally agree with this statement and, in this essay, I will support my view with examples.
One of the main advantages of this idea is the fact that reducing gap between individuals’ income can allow families in need to pay student fees and give their children a proper education. This may help kids to get a decent job and, in the meantime, contribute to the economy of a country in their future. Another benefit is this view can provide a great assistance in increasing diversity in the workplaces, due to a significant number of qualified people with different backgrounds.
On the other hand, this statement might support the overconsumption culture. For example, individuals, who have a stable and decent salaries, tend to buy more products that they do not need. In other words, if the citizens’ income was high enough, more people would spend their money on goods, which may end up in the landfills and produce a lot of harmful emissions.
To sum up, although reducing the income gap between the rich and poor seems like a good idea, it has its flaws. Personally, I believe that it can have a lot of benefits for our society. However, we need to be aware of the possibility of supporting various bad trends and habits, which can be very relevant in the matter of citizens’ money.
